Phoenix School of Roseburg will host its annual fund-raiser dinner dance and auction April 9 at Seven Feathers Hotel & Casino Resort.
The event, Dancing Under the Stars, will benefit the nonprofit, private school serving about 200 at-risk students from around Douglas County. Last school year, the event raised about $92,000.
The school has plans to use this year's money to add online courses for Learning on the Fast Track, an individualized program where students earn credits by completing workbooks, said Ron Breyne, executive director of Phoenix School.
The funds will also be used to develop vocational opportunities for students to gain technology and office skills. Tools and supplies will be purchased for the Oregon Youth Conservation Corp, a program where students work in natural resources.
The school would also like to use the money to initiate programs for students who live in south county and for students with disabilities. Many of the school's services are centered around Roseburg, and school officials would like to make it easier for south county students to use them, Breyne said.
The auction and dinner will feature Prestone and the Coolants. Lee Paterson, Roseburg School District superintendent, is a member of the band. The auction items will include a sports fan package, a trip to an exotic location, gourmet dinners in private homes and art work. There will also be a raffle for a ring donated by Knudtson's Jewelers.
The silent auction begins at 5:30 p.m., cocktail hour and dinner is at 6 p.m. and an auction and dancing will follow. Tickets are $60 per person and are available at the school, 3131 N.E. Diamond Lake Blvd. Information: 673-3036.
