Festival to feature food and activities

Print Comment
UMPQUA: The 22nd annual “Henry Goes Wine” festival at Henry Estate Winery has a multitude of activities and contests for children and adults, and large spreads of cuisine.

There will be winery tours, barrel sampling and wagon rides through the vineyards.

The food lineup includes a salmon and pork rib barbecue.

This year the children’s entertainment includes horse and pony rides, magic shows, a play area, Wildlife Safari animals, model airplanes and the numerous toys that will be handed out to every child as they come through the gate.

The Department of Fish and Wildlife will be showing falcons it has raised. There will also be alpacas to pet.

The Cheeseburgers, “Oregon’s No. 1 Parrot-head band,” will be performing. In a tribute to Jimmy Buffet and his laid-back island style, they play a mix of Caribbean, country and rock-and-roll music.

Contests are the ninth annual potato salad contest, a horseshoe throwing contest and a long-ball precision golf drive.

The festival begins at noon Aug. 18 at Henry Estate Winery, 687 Hubbard Creek Road, Umpqua. Admission for adults is $8; children 10 and over are $4.

Information: 459-5120.
