ROSEBURG: Exhibit space is available for the eighth annual Earth Day and Energy Fair taking place in April at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 19. A planning committee has announced there will be no charge to exhibitors and the event itself is free to the public.
Organizations, businesses, agencies, entertainers, artists, crafters, students and others interested in the use of natural resources are invited to participate.
Exhibit topics include reusable and recycled products, energy conservation, wildlife, native plants, growing organic, crafts from trash, alternative fuel vehicles, building and gardening practices, hazardous waste management and more. Hands-on displays are strongly encouraged. Food vendors are welcome to apply as well. Vendors are asked to contribute one door prize valued at $15 to $20.
The exhibitor registration deadline is March 30.
A student poetry competition also is planned as part of the event. Douglas County students ages 6 to 18 are invited to submit any form of poetry to a librarian at the nearest public library. The six categories are: Nature and Wildlife; Conservation; Water, Energy and Resources; Seasons; Mother Earth and Recycling.
Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges. The authors of the top selections in each category will receive prizes and read their work at this year’s Earth Day and Energy Fair.
