Winning 'pro' for a year

Print Comment
In 1984, when I was 70 years old, my golfing buddy, Bo Boucock, and I were playing in a golf tournament in Sams Town, Nev.

The tournament was open to all ages and on the K.P. hole, my drive was the closest to the pin and I won $2,500. That made me a pro for a year, so I could not compete in any amateur events.

On April 8, 1988, I scored a hole in one on the sixth hole at the Roseburg Country Club.

Last summer at the Elks Lodge Charitable Tournament for its eye clinic, our foursome of Harvey Reed, age 98 and my brother, Buzz Toft, 80, Claude Miestrup, 83, and myself, age 93, were the oldest team playing. We did not win, but scored well and had a great time.

Harvey has one hole-in-one in his golfing career. That came in August, 1990, on the No. 3 hole at the Stewart Park golf course when he was 81 years old.
