EAST DOUGLAS COUNTY — A snow advisory is currently in effect for areas of Douglas County above 2,000 feet, primarily for the foothills of eastern Douglas County, according to the National Weather Service in Medford.
The advisory is expected to remain in effect until 11 p.m. as a low pressure trough brings snow showers through the evening.
Snow accumulation of up to three inches is expected today, with an additional three inches expected in the evening. Amounts are expected to be greatest in the east portions of the county.
The periods of snow may cause travel difficulties. Drivers should use caution and be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibility.
According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, Highway 138 East near Toketee has been seeing snow flurries and spots of ice. Drivers should carry chains or traction tires. The highway several miles past Diamond Lake has packed snow. Chains are required on vehicles with a gross weight of 10,000 pounds.
