UCAN holds head start open houses

DOUGLAS COUNTY: Umpqua Community Action Network is holding multiple head start open houses around the county in the next month.

The open houses allow parents to learn about UCAN Head Start and submit applications for the 2008-2009 school year. Children must be 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 1.

Applications require proof of birth, proof of income, well child exam and dental exam. The exams require the name of the child’s doctor and date of the last exam.

Open houses will take the following days and times:

• 10 a.m. to noon April 4 at Winchester Elementary School, 217 Pioneer Way, Winchester.

• 1 to 3 p.m. April 4 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1101 W. Sixth St., Sutherlin.

• 10 a.m. to noon April 11 next to Green Elementary at 4544 Carnes Road, Green.

• 1 to 3 p.m. April 11 at McGovern Elementary School, 620 N.W. Elwood, Winston.

• 10 a.m. to noon April 25 at Rose Elementary School, 948 S.E. Roberts Ave., Roseburg.

• 1 to 3 p.m. April 25 at the Hill Top School, 124 N. Main, Canyonville.

• 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 2 at 2036 Fir Ave., Reedsport.
