TOKETEE FALLS: Umpqua National Forest officials have temporarily closed the popular Toketee Falls Trail. The trail was closed Monday after officials deemed it unsafe because of fallen trees.

More than a dozen trees lie across the 0.4-mile trail. Heavy snowfall in January caused the trees to fall, making the trail, picnic areas and restrooms near the trailhead unsafe for visitors. Forest service specialists are assessing the damage to the railings, buildings, trail path and steps.

Forest officials are encouraging people to visit other waterfall trails in the area, such as Watson Falls, Yakso Falls and Falls Creek Trail.

For more information on hiking options, contact the Umpqua National Forest at 672-6601 or visit www.co.douglas.or.us/parks/brochures/north_umpqua_river.pdf for a waterfalls brochure.
