Local actors, writers and musicians will present an Echoes of the Umpqua pageant this weekend as part of Fort Umpqua Days in Elkton.

“THE WORLD’S FASTEST INDIAN” — Catch a free flick tonight at 7 p.m. at Roseburg Church of Religious Science, Center for Spiritual Living, Southgate Center, 1949 S.E. Stephens. The movie is based on a true story and stars Anthony Hopkins. Freewill offering. 229-5000.
“HEADIN’ FOR THE HILLS” — For the full dinner-theater experience starting at 7 p.m. tonight or Saturday, head to The Grand Victorian Myrtle Creek, 828 N. Old Pacific Highway, Myrtle Creek. The plot is about two rich girls who are forced to live with their only living relatives, Tennessee hillbillies, in order to receive their father’s inheritance. UMPQUA ULTIMATE — Watch locals compete with a 7:45 a.m. Olympic triathlon and duathlon, 8:45 a.m. sprint triathlon and 10 a.m. 5K and 10K run/walks on Saturday. The swim course is at Cooper Creek Reservoir; the bike course begins at the reservoir and finishes at Central Park; run/walk courses begin and end at Central Park. FORT UMPQUA DAYS — Don’t miss this two-day North County celebration beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday and continuing at noon on Sunday at the Elkton Community Education Center, 15850 Highway 38 W. The theme of this year’s parade for Fort Umpqua Days is “From Woods to Wine.” The parade will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by storytelling, a pie auction, kids crafts, a bass tournament and live entertainment by Milepost 8. The Echoes of the Umpqua pageant will take place at 5 p.m.; almost 100 community members participate. Sunday’s events continue with live entertainment by Small Town Rumor, a quilt raffle, a butterfly release, a fly fishing demonstration and Echoes of the Umpqua pageant at 4 p.m. There will also be an ongoing quilt show. 584-2692.
ART BY THE BAY 2008 —Peruse fine art and listen to music from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on the waterfront, Winchester Bay.
