Traffic cameras are a good idea

Print Comment
I think it is a good idea to put up traffic cameras in Roseburg. As for increasing the chance of rear-end collisions, I think that could be solved by Roseburg passing a law to make it illegal for people to drive with their cell phones plastered to the sides of their heads instead of paying attention to their driving and by following existing laws by driving the correct distance away from the vehicle in front of them and driving the speed limits.

Roseburg was not designed for the amount of traffic on its surface streets, which means drivers should be paying closer attention to what is going on around them instead of worrying about answering a phone call or text message. If it is an emergency, the person will call back, just like they did before cell phones.

Perhaps next, the city can do something about people who see speed limit, stop and yield signs as only a suggestion. I cannot tell you how many people drive up and down Alameda Street like they are on a NASCAR track. Some do bother to stop at the four-way stop though — some.
