Sutherlin: Don’t repeat past errors

Print Comment
Sutherlin City Council will be holding an appeal hearing on Monday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m., to take public testimony regarding the approved PUD at Ford’s Pond.

I filed this appeal because I felt the planning commission failed to make an informed, educated decision, specifically by choosing not to review the Parks and Open Space Plan and the Sutherlin Comprehensive Plan, prior to taking a hasty vote to approve the private, gated community.

All residents may attend this meeting and provide testimony.

I want to see Sutherlin grow responsibly. Cities should have parks, walking/bike paths and opens spaces for all citizens, not just the privileged few. We need to avoid past mistakes by using these plans to ensure all development is in line with our codes, future transportation requirements and recreational needs to avoid saddling taxpayers with costly fixes in the future.
