Gilman: Scores game-winning touchdown
CENTRAL POINT — Jake Gilman’s 2-yard touchdown run with less than two minutes remaining helped Sutherlin upset Cascade Christian, 14-7, Saturday night in a non-league prep football game at Crater High’s Dutch Meyer Field.

The Bulldogs (1-1) got a 3-yard TD run from Nick Bradley in the second quarter. The 3A Challengers, playing their season opener, forced five turnovers (two interceptions and three fumble recoveries) but turned the ball over three times.

Gilman was Sutherlin’s leading rusher with 55 yards and Kyle Jaukkuri added 53. Sutherlin finished with 205 yards total offense, 173 coming on the ground.

The Bulldogs host La Pine next Friday in a non-league contest.

St. Mary’s 12, Riddle 7

MEDFORD — Riddle’s fourth-quarter comeback attempt ended when Connor O’Boyle intercepted Brock Goldbeck near midfield with under three minutes to play at Spiegelberg Stadium.

Goldbeck threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Brodie Goldbeck earlier in the quarter to pull the Irish within five.

O’Boyle threw a 48-yard TD pass to Jeff Reeded after connecting with Logan Brooks in the first quarter. Dane Irving rushed for 129 yards for the Crusaders.
